- Balducci's was founded as a fruit-and-vegetable stand in Brooklyn in 1916 by a young immigrant from Bari, Italy named Louis Balducci. In 1946, he and his son Andy opened their first retail store in Greenwich Village. This original Balducci's was a landmark food store for more than 50 years. Currently they operate 10 food markets where you can find a selection of seasonal and artisanal products, fruits and vegetables, breads and desserts and chef-prepared foods.
